Home > Identify Alternative Conceptions
As much as possible, test questions should be embedded in the experience of the testing population. This means that incorrect response options ("distracters"), and stems if appropriate, should originate from interaction with the target population. Alternative conceptions held by the target population can be identified through research or review of the existing research literature. The GCI WebCenter team is also compiling a database of identified alternative conceptions that authors can use in the future.
