- Bug 5899 "printing a pdf file in a course via the printing option"
  - Use -sDEVICE=ps2write arg in call to gs for ghostscript 9.09 or newer.

Bug #1320: printing from construction space (except sequences - unclear how that worked)

Only run the gs postscript cleanup if some PDF's were included in the
printout.  Purpose of this is to improve printout quality when PDF's
are not included.

BZ 6307 - use gs instead of fixps...see if the output quality is any better.

Depending on the version of  convert  the tool might exit with an error (e.g.
segmentation fault) when trying to convert certain image files.  This change is
supposed to capture these errors and print a suitable message to the user.
Usually saving the image with different settings (or a different program) is
enough to avoid the segfaults.

- Correct 1.142.6.3 (backport of 1.146).

- If a file in the convert queue is pdf, convert using pdftops
- Use fixps to ensure that the ps has no errors when including
  converted pdfs.

- Fix link to LaTeX logfile.

- Only print error source, if source exists (-> $badtext)

Factored the analysis of the logfile out of the main-line of printing.
This drops out a ton of duplicate code that had been in the mainline.
Appears to still work too!

- Interal refactoring of convert_image's final filename generation.
- Simplification of path generation so it's easier to understand
 (replace a regsub with call to dirname).

Factored figure conversion into separate sub to make the main line a bit easier to read.
  I think it even still works.

Bug #5643: not erroneously timing out during printouts

Bug #5643 - maybe. If what we want to detect are INFINITE loops, maybe we
can wait five minutes instead of 10 seconds. Given that a normal exam printing
run for me takes about 50 minutes, I think five minutes are okay.

BZ 5648???
  1. Increased the timeout to 20 seconds (factored that out into
     $busy_wait_timeout at the top of the file.
  2. Output a warning message if the timeout triggered.

Suggest seeing if this output occurs on the exams in question in that bug.

BZ5548 - Timeout latex jobs that don't make dvi file grow after 10 seconds.

- BUG#5397, eliminate the extra 'Return to last resource' link in prt mode
  (and enable the standard 'return to resource link') preserver the
  extra return link for use soley in construction space and update the text
  to say this

- make the re match only the types of %%Page: comments we are looking for

The changes around 1.122 which use the print spool directory from
perlvar inadvertently dropped a / in the directory specify causing
images to be generated in the wrong directory (e.g.
instead of /home/prtspool/msu... /home/prtspoolmsu .. added back the
appropriate path seperators.

Re-fix typo on first unlink of missfonts.log and move the unlinks
around so that the  missfonts.log file is removed even after latex
regenerates them becuse it's looking for an exact match (while
dvisp will accept a font match with different resolution).

- Eliminte uneeded use of IO::File
- add in missin /
- run each font creation command only once

Fix a mostly harmless typo in an unlink... had extra trash in it.

- commenting out some debug messages

If font generation at pdf resolution fails... generate at ljfour
resolution instead and re-dvips.  Still need to remove some debugging
output, but this is for bug 5089 and related.
NOTE:  Multiple simulataneous print jobs may yet fail.
      As all will write to the same missfonts.log file.
      this could be an issue I think even if dvips was just run
      to regen the fonts as there's skew in when the missfonts.log
      file is deleted.
Conclusions:  This is probably no worse than before and may be better.

Correct destination directory for eps copies.

Handle files in conversion queue with .eps or .ps extensions by copying
them with ' ' mapped to _ so that printing them won't fail.

Part of bz 4265 - if the image conversion queue file has ps or eps images
in it, just convert any spaces in their names to _'s and copy to the
spool directory for the latex inclusion..

- BUG#5017, extra page at end of printing when priting multiple users

Remove some left over log spew.

- BUG#4950 the ENDOFSTUDENTSTAMP was being placed not at the actual
  end of a student but at the begining of the next student this could cause
  oddities when  you had exactly the right number of columns sepicified
- additionaly the final student was getting blank columns inserted
- switch to using \clearpage\strut\clearpage to cause the blank columns
  like lonprintout.pm does

- removing debugging spew BUG#4875

Use \strut instead of "this page intentionally left blank"

1. Only do the necessary latex's during repagination (not sure.. may be able
   to remove the makeindex prior to repag.).
2. ensure that \pagebreak really does make a 'blank' page by adding the text
   'this page left intentionally blank'.  Otherwise seems like latex would
   glom multiple \pagebreaks together if the page was blank??

Add progress window info for repagniation.. in case it gets to be
time consuming.

\pagebreak is more reliable at breaking pages than \newpage

Better try at getting constant page count /student.

I think this repaginates correctly but need to test further and
certainly need to get a status display up while it's doing it.
It certainly appears to do no harm in any event.

strip the STARTOFSTUDENT/ENDOFSTUDENT stamps from the initial postscript
This is an intermediate development stage of request 4786... later
this will be extended to count the pages between each of these stamps
and subsequently ensure that the output for all student assignments in
a single printout will be the same number of page/columns.

- some versions of image magick mishandle converting animated gifs,
- later version of image magick have changed to file name that is generated as a result of the conversion process

Addressing Bug 4047:
Give a bit more indication what's going on in both status and download
when multiple files are created.  There are two cases that are handled
more or less ok:
- Multiple selected students:  The files are now created in the
  form (oldfilename_serialfirst-last.*  where first and last are
  the last names of the first and last students in the range.
  The download links for the  individual files show the name range as
  before.
- Multiple anonymous students:  This had given only @ on the status line
  and for each of the download links. Now we present the name of the .tex
  file (not dir path, just name.tex) in the status window and for the
  individual download links as well.

Remove a left over debugging statement.

bug 4047 - get filenames uniquified by a serial number for now (first
suggestion).

Defect 4246 - retain information about the converted file's initial
filetype in case a single job requires e.g. file.jpg and file.gif to
be converted.

Defect 4044 - don't tell the student there's a LaTeX error and innundate
them with error diagnostics they can't do anything about.`

Use the correct mechanism to deteRmine recipeints on error
emails - set the subject such that resources will be labelled with

"lender/tabloid" is supported for two column output in 'book' layout.

"Legal" format of  paper is fully supported now.

Bug 3266 (A4 printing fails to work properly) is fixed. Continue to work on other formats.

Adding missing ">", had leaking link

Bug 2521 (The eps conversion in construction space does not appear to work) is fixed. See londefdef.pm too.

Some cleanup has been done to use cookie mechanism.

Bug 2287 (automatic eps generation needs to preserves paths) is partly corrected - it's done for static images. Further neccessary steps are 1) implement the same for randomlabel. problems; 2) implement additional parameter to do previous item for a few students at the same time; 3) make a test for a few more situations.

Log and Tex files are available only for advanced users.

You have links to log and original LaTeX files even in the case of nonbatch mode processing. I'll do some clening of this script a little bit later (continue toplay with it for some particular cases).

Bug 2076 (which is not a bug but rather enhancement) is partly fixed: in the batch mode I added a link to original LaTeX source file (michael hamlin wanted to have this). Continue to work with the case of plane LaTeX processing (without batch mode).

Index section isprintable for the separate resource.

Exact (or more correctly almost exact) "pointer" to the problem where LaTeX error was occured is shows up on the screen. Added one more LaTeX error indication (one of the most frequent errors).
